Spring Rise Community Garden was initiated by Kira Orsak with support from Steve King in 2019. It is a learning on the land initiative developing into a resource from the ground up, for the local community to learn about and celebrate local and sustainable food, craft and culture.

 

The land is being developed into an ecologically diverse, 4-season resource for learning, with the principle of care for all life at the core.

 

Spring Rise currently plays host to a vegetable and flower garden, fruit trees and soft fruit, pollinator beds and a tree nursery. There are opportunities to get involved in all these areas on a regular basis.

Simple structures give us all-weather options for gathering and learning. These include compost toilets, a bell tent a polytunnel and a large shelter. We also host a weekly education group who under the expert guidance of local ecologist Tom Forward grow food, craft with materials on site and learn about and enhance the biodiversity of the land here.

 

We are especially fortunate to be host space for many courses and events run by Children’s Forest. This locally based organisation supports the visioning and creation of abundant futures for all species through the planting and tending of forests.

 

We have received small pots of funding over the last few years to develop the site and our offerings from it. We are grateful to currently be funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. The funding has helped us develop our food growing areas, wildlife beds and to build our community Earth Oven.
